STEEL Home School Co-op

S.T.E.E.L. is Students Teaching Elevated Education and Learning. We nurture the whole child, by providing educational experiences that provide opportunities for each student to discover their gifts and use them, including core academics as well as music & fine arts. One of our goals is to help students learn so well that they are able to teach things to each others, and we have each child work toward teaching something during the school year. We believe the highest mastery of learning is achieved via teaching others.

Location: Grosso Music & Fine Arts at 102 Flagship Dr Suite 114, Lutz, FL 33549

WE’RE MOVING THIS FALL!
Our new location will be Home Church, 102 Lake Hobbs Road, Lutz, FL 33549

WE ARE A DIRECT PROVIDER WITH STEP-UP FOR STUDENTS

BELIEFS
We are a Christian Homeschool Co-Op and begin the day with a devotional, in order to help each student start off learning how to center their day with a Quiet Time and give them tools that help them discover their gifts and explore them. This is the heart of all we do. We believe that if students succeed academically but not spiritually, then they are missing the most important thing in their lives…how to have a relationship with their Creator and a deep prayer life.

HOMESCHOOL CO-OP
We offer curriculum in Bible/History/Literature and an opportunity for Math and Science with a focus on writing in the middle of the week and free time and instruction in the arts. Students are still homeschooled and need to be registered as a Homeschooler. We are NOT an umbrella school or a tutoring service.  Instead, our goal is to walk aside parents to create a different kind of learning environment and study skills. Our classes, provide the structure to help students work through various curriculums. They are still responsible for completing their supplemental work/reading at home and be registered as Homeschoolers with their respective county.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
Because Middle School years are integral as we each seek to figure out our purpose, we work through reading the Bible and applying these principles on a regular basis in our morning devotion time with 5th – 8th grades, helping students as they struggle through figuring out what they believe as it becomes their own belief. These students will be invited to help with instruction for 2nd – 5th grades.

GRADES 6th – 8th

We will offer Sonlight’s World History, One Year Condensed in the 2025-2026 year. We sweep through Ancient and Modern History in one year.  You can read more here: https://www.sonlight.com/world-history-one-year-condensed-w

For Science, we will be offering Earth Science, distributed by Classical Academic Press.  There is a direct link here where you can read this more.  I offered this to my own children when they homeschooled, and it was one of their favorites!  https://classicalacademicpress.com/collections/novare-science/products/earth-science-gods-world-our-home-program

For Math, we will be using an online course, called Thinkwell Mathematics.  Students will be required to purchase and access the videos from home and bring in questions to work on together.  Both of my personal children used this curriculum with tremendous success.  We have a teacher that comes in and works with students individually as well as they work through this course.  The link to view the curriculum is here: https://www.thinkwellhomeschool.com/products/6th-grade-math

On Wednesdays, students will be using IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing).  We will be using Structure and Style for Students: Year 1 Level B Premier.  (https://iew.com/writing) We will also be using the Critical Thinking Company’s Sentence Diagramming (https://www.criticalthinking.com/sentence-diagramming.html) as well as Vocabulary from Classical Roots (https://www.classroomresourcecenter.com/shop-by-subject/vocabulary/vocabulary-from-classical-roots/)
For those who complete Year Level B, we will move onto more practice at this level and incorporating poetic devices into creative writing.
Should we have someone who is advanced in writing that signs up, we will work to devise a curriculum that meets that childs’ needs.

Planners will be required for each student, so they can begin to learn organizational skills.

FINANCIAL PEACE
We consider learning to manage finances a Fine Art and an important skill to learn. We plan to offer supplemental classes throughout the year, including Dave Ramsey’s Youth/Teen Version of Financial Peace University, because we believe it should be a priority for students to learn how to manage/use money as a part of their gifts. We also strongly encourage parents to take this class, as change typically happens when a whole family engages in it together.  This will not be offered during the regular daytime school hours.

Tuition And Fees

Elementary Cost: $400 per month for 9 months (billed on the 12th of each month)
Middle School Cost: $400 per month for 9 months (Billed on the 12th of each month)

Curriculum Costs: This will be individually based on each grade level, as we adjust readers to each child’s level.  That being said, most of our curriculum costs are included in tuition with the exception of lap books and math.  We will meet with each parent to coordinate the ordering of the materials, so they have the option of submitting this for reimbursement from the State of Florida if they are eligible and choose to do this.

*A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot.  This fee goes towards each child’s education. It is due by March 15th.  Our Elementary and Middle School groups are limited to 12 students for each group for the coming year.  We will evaluate space and teachers as we grow.

STEEL – Students Teaching Elevated Education and Learning

Proverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Mission: Our Co-op mission is to help provide a strong foundation for students to start their day with prayer and scriptures. We will also focus on their gifts that God has equipped them with to enrich others’ lives. Because of this, we will start each day with a Quiet Time practice of devotion and prayer and asking the question about what our gifts are that we are to share with others. We believe that God has equipped each of us with different gifts and abilities in order to share and use them. (I Peter 4:10)

As a part of this, as the students grow, we plan to implement them learning to lead and teach. Teaching is a strong educator on its own and is a great way of learning and empower students to share their gifts and knowledge in areas that they love to learn.
